"น้ำมันปลา ละลายกล่องโฟมได้ ไม่ได้อันตราย"
ได้คำถามมาว่า จากการสาธิตขายน้ำมันปลาของ บ. ขายตรงยี่ห้อหนึ่ง เค้าเอาน้ำมันปลามาหยดลงบนกล่องโฟม เทียบกับของบริษัทอื่น ทิ้งไว้สักครู่ พบว่าของยี่ห้อเค้า กล่องโฟมไม่เป็นไร แต่ยี่ห้ออื่น โฟมละลายเกลี้ยงเลย ... แถมบอกว่า ที่ละลายเนี่ย เพราะมีสารปรอท เป็นอันตราย ของเค้าปลอดภัยกว่า ... ความจริงเป็นเช่นไรครับ
เรื่องการทดลองหยดกล่องโฟมนี้ ผมเคยโพสต์แล้ว โดยเฉพาะกรณีที่มีคนเอา "น้ำกลิ่นแมงดา" ไปหยดกล่องโฟม แล้วกล่องละลาย ทำเอากลัวกันไปใหญ่ ไม่กล้ากิน เพราะกลัวจะเป็นอันตราย ... ซึ่งจริงๆ มันไม่ได้อันตรายอะไรอย่างนั้น
กล่องโฟมที่เราใช้กันเนี่ย เรียกว่า สไตโรโฟม (Styrofoam®) ซึ่งก็ทำจากสารโพลีสไตรีน (polystyrene) นั่นเอง และมันก็ "ละลาย" ด้วยน้ำมันปลาบริสุทธิ์ได้ ไม่ต่างอะไรกับที่โดนน้ำกลิ่นแมงดาละลาย หรือแม้แต่ น้ำมันผิวมะนาว-เลมอน (lemon oil)
ที่เป็นเช่นนั้นก็เพราะในสารเหล่านั้น มีกรดไขมันพวกที่อยู่ในรูปของเอธิลเอสเทอร์ (ethyl ester) อยู่ ซึ่งจะละลายสไตโรโฟมได้ดีกว่าพวกที่อยู่ในรูปของไตรกลีเซอไรด์ (triglyceride) เป็นอย่างมาก เพราะน้ำมันปลาที่เป็นเอธิลเอสเทอร์จะมีจำนวนของพันธะทางเคมีใกล้เคียงกับของโฟม ทำให้มันละลายรวมกันได้โดยง่าย
จะเห็นว่าการละลายของกล่องโฟมด้วยน้ำมันปลาบริสุทธิ์นี้ ไม่ได้เกี่ยวกับว่ามีสารปรอท หรือแม้แต่ตัวละลายอื่นๆ เช่น แอลกอฮอล์ ฯลฯ มาปนเปื้อนแต่อย่างไร และก็ไม่ได้ส่งผลเสียใดๆ กับร่างกายของเราเลยด้วย ... ร่างกายของเราก็ย่อยไขมันที่ 2 รูปแบบนี้ได้ดีพอๆ กัน
การละลายโฟมของน้ำมันปลาแต่ละยี่ห้อ ต่างกันแค่ว่ามีแบบเอสเทอร์มากน้อยแค่ไหนเท่านั้นเอง ... ตามธรรมชาติแล้ว น้ำมันปลาจะอยู่ในรูปไตรกลีเซอไรด์ ซึ่งจะเสียสภาพได้ง่าย ทำให้หลายยี่ห้อไปทำให้มันเป็นรูปเอสเตอร์มากขึ้น เพื่อให้คงสภาพไว้ และทำให้มีโอมาก้า 3 เช่น EPA และ DHA สูงเช่นเดิม
หรือพูดสรุปง่ายๆ ว่า การที่น้ำมันปลามันละลายกล่องโฟมได้ กลับจะดีกว่าที่มันไม่ละลายซะอีก 555
เรื่องนี้ได้อุทาหรณ์ว่า การโฆษณาชวนเชื่อของพวกขายตรงเนี่ย หลายครั้งใช้การทดลองสาธิต ที่ดูน่าตื่นเต้น แต่ตีความกันเองมั่วๆ เป็นตุเป็นตะ ไม่ได้มีเหตุผลทางวิทยาศาสตาร์อะไรรับรอง แถมยังพยายามดิสเครดิตเจ้าอื่นๆ กันด้วย
